Call Of Chernobyl Roadside Picnic
- Fear The Wolves is battle royale in irradiated Chernobyl. By Alice O'Connor. 1 year ago. 17. Take one hundred players fighting to the death in that Playerunknown's Battlegrounds way, throw them into the S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-esque irradiated and anomaly-ridden ruins of Chernobyl, and you might have a game like the newly-announced Fear The Wolves.
- There is a whole book series based on the book Roadside Picnic and the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. So far, they are only available in Russian. The first book is called S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadows of Chernobyl (Russian: Teni Chernobylya). It features a couple of stories written by different authors and fans of the game series.
Finally, the third game, Call of Pripyat, includes all of the weapons from the previous two games and adds one, the Armsel Protecta. Finally, I've been playing Call of Pripyat all week and I'm fairly sure that the Protecta (named 'Eliminator' in-game) is portrayed as fully automatic and doesn't have to be modified as such.
This article really does not belong on this website. 19:45, March 31, 2010 (UTC)Well.it's a good practice of also documenting novels.22:42, March 31, 2010 (UTC)If we make the article good i dont see why not?.Charcharo.The games are inspired by this book aparently, so why not include it on the stalker site? Also Charcharo, you can sign your signature by doing four 's instead of.ing your name, then it tells you when you signed it and links you to your page =). 01:42, April 2, 2010 (UTC)I think it belongs here; it's the inspiration.
02:28, April 2, 2010 (UTC)Roadside was, yeah, the inspiration for much of STALKER, along with the film Stalker. Things like anomalies, the nature of the Zone, are all clearly inspired by it. 03:17, April 2, 2010 (UTC)I just got Metro 2033, seems heavily inspired by STALKER aswell, probably because some of the people who made ShoC made Metro 2033. Also alot of the english voice actors for STALKER are here, its kinda nostalgic. The guy who had that lighter happier sounding voice from ShoC and CS, the guy who voiced in CoP, the guy who voiced Yar in CS and most of the Traders, and I even noticed ol' 's voice too, recognized it right away when he said 'Hey!, is he going to be alright down there?' , the 'Hey' sounded just like Ashot's 'Hey Baddy!' When you approached him.
04:05, April 2, 2010 (UTC)Cool. I hear the game is linear and difficult to mod, but I'll get it anyway. I'm getting a GTX 480 as soon as it comes out. Max settings, DX11 at 1920 x 1080 for me! Just no AA, the game is very hard to run. 18:06, April 2, 2010 (UTC)It is very linear, but it does have the ShoC feeling, like the first time you went to Streloks hideout underground, except its like that all game. Its all the little realistic details that make this game cool.
For example, you have to manually check/change everything and during this time you can be attacked (manually charge your flashligh/change your gasmask/check your air timer etc.) And you really have to use your senses to get around, if you step one some broken glass or kick a can, you alert the area, if your flashligh is turned off you can accidentally walk into a 'Ghost' (Spirits that wander around and appear as a silhoulet from your lights). Its a very cool little game. 19:27, April 2, 2010 (UTC)Roadside Picknick. Something Familiar.I spoke too soon,Check this out (Metro 2033 Screenshot)Yep, thats the Vintar BC I'm holdin too, scopeless though (I accidentally dropped my expensive scoped one for an AK and lost it!!). 03:40, April 3, 2010 (UTC)Vintar BC using 5.45mm ammo huh. 07:32, April 3, 2010 (UTC)Yeah all sub-machine guns/assault rifles use the same ammo (5.45mm), its kinda innacurate but thats just how it is.
(all revolvers use.44 magnum, all shotguns use 12.70 slugs, all rifles/subs use 5.45mm) 09:52, April 3, 2010 (UTC)I'm all about realism. I hope I can add new ammunition types, it's very easy to do in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 16:15, April 3, 2010 (UTC)It will probably not be easy, not only it's a console game, the devs themselves said the game is not mod-friendly. 16:26, April 3, 2010 (UTC)Yeah it seems like its not mod friendly, its a very linear game with pretty much everything is scripted. You'd have to add the new ammo type everywhere and on the corpses all over the worlds, you'd have to give it a new model and set it up so it attaches to the guys suits, and set it up so you can buy it.
Ammo is very scarse in this game and you trade Army-Grade ammo (the currency in the game), for dirty Metro-Ammo. Another fun fact I learnt about this game, it is possible that the 4A engine the ShoC developers used to make this game, use a beta Xray engine as its base. 18:02, April 3, 2010 (UTC)I recently read the novel, Roadside Picnic, and have been comparing the book's Zone to the one in the STALKER Trilogy. The way the Games are based on the novel is really quite obvious, really!
The artefacts, the anomalies, even the fact that they wear what's probably SSP-99 EnviroSuits and cary bags full of bolts. The games really do the book justice, but the book dose put the games to shame in someways, such as the fact they have alcohol that's not vodka for starters! The way they sell artefacts in the book is essentially the same thing that's done in the STALKER Trilogy.
05:40, September 6, 2010 (UTC)DarkIt is not about how obvious it is. It's about whether it is mentioned in the GAME, as we are here to document that. 05:54, September 6, 2010 (UTC). Contents The article does belong, but God, is it ugly.Itreally doesn't do the book or its influence on Stalker justice. Unless anyone has any objections, I'm going to burn it to the ground and rebuild it, because as it stands now it is a slight upon the honour of the writers and all humanity as we know it.OK, it's not that bad, but it could be way better.04:58, August 6, 2010 (UTC)DifferencesThis was pointless as 'the zone' and really 'zones' in the book are never explained. Their creation and thus purposes is debated but there is no discovery of the truth - merely theories and possibilities. There could be a section added on the differences between the anomalies in the book and their in-game counterparts but that is a job for another day.14:29, September 1, 2010 (UTC)!This article does not belong!Unless there is mention of the novel in the game or a character from the novel in the game; It has no relevence to the Stalker video game series.
If people want to look up the novel, they can on TOW, but here I believe this is a wiki that focuses on information in the games which you won't find on TOW.If we want to refer to, I think we can without having to try and make a whole new article, which is terrible. I recommend deletion.Spysix 20:19, September 1, 2010 (UTC)I'm sorry what? Have you actually read the book?Granted, as the article is now, it is of no use to anyone, but as soon as I have the time I'll rework it so that every relevance to the game is laid out here in full, as well as every game reference to the book itself.16:23, September 3, 2010 (UTC)Hahaha! Oh man, that is classic! If I had power, Spysix, I'd ban you from this wiki altogether. What's that phrase?
Ignorance is bliss? Fight the good fight, Chikubi!16:51, September 3, 2010 (UTC)-Thanks PinothyJ it really shows how much of a child you are. I guess you missed my point. If there is already an article it doesn't need to be here.
If Chikubi delivers on that promise then the article can stay. I am not ignorant, I know the book has some relation to a zone and etc. Please before trying to snub somebody make sure you know what you are talking about. Perhapes I need to let a moderator remind you? Spysix 17:13, September 3, 2010 (UTC)(Reset indent) Guys, keep it civil.
17:41, September 3, 2010 (UTC)It is obvious why there should be a page on the novel in the same way that there is a page on, or even, a stub on. All these pages are in relation to how said article directly relates and identifies with either one or all of the games in the series. In Roadside Picnic's case on Wikipedia, S.T.A.L.K.E.R gets a mention twice and that is it; I would like to see proper fleshed out differences and similarities, as well as a timeline of ideas from the book to the movie to the incident to the games so people could really get a true understanding.00:18, September 4, 2010 (UTC)Wait.why WOULD there be a page on Ukraine or a stub on RU? You can avoid making those articles alltogether by just linking their wikipedia page. This wiki is to serve the game, not the game and everything it touches outside of the game.Spysix 15:22, September 7, 2010 (UTC)Because they are a part of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
RU is the in-game currency and Ukraine is apparently the country the game is set in. So there should be articles about those using ONLY in-game information.
15:51, September 7, 2010 (UTC)Thanks, the discussion in this section is over. I'm curious to see how Chikubi will work it all out.Spysix 17:45, September 3, 2010 (UTC)Ehm, actually, it's not up to you to say whether it's over or not.
A discussion is over once all the parties involved reach to an agreement, and you weren't the only one participating. But I guess if the community decides to leave things in Chikubi's hands, so it shall be. 18:15, September 3, 2010 (UTC)I said in This section, I know it is not up to me.
But Chikubi already addressed my issue hence why I said that. Spysix 18:18, September 3, 2010 (UTC)Oh, I see.
18:22, September 3, 2010 (UTC)hmm, I think this article could use some re-working. Sources relating to the game series should contain information on the 'chernobyl zone of alienation'. The book has hardly anything to do with the plot to the series. 04:15, September 6, 2010 (UTC)that was what I was getting at but apparently that kind of thought is criminal. Spysix 04:17, September 6, 2010 (UTC)hey, pinothyJ is the only one that is not neutral on the situation. 04:20, September 6, 2010 (UTC)I didn't know the desire to ban someone was neutral. Spysix 04:21, September 6, 2010 (UTC)isn't pinothyJ the only one who wanted to ban you?
Call Of Chernobyl Roadside Picnic Set
04:24, September 6, 2010 (UTC)Oops I read that wrong, I didn't see the 'not' in your sentence. This is what I get for reading wikis at 12am. Spysix 04:27, September 6, 2010 (UTC)(Reset indent) Anyway, I'm thinking of just having the page maybe as an honorable mention, but my earlier suggestion of referring to the wikipedia page is just as efficient. I'm still reading the book, I don't recall aliens in the zone or zones tho.I thought it would be ok now but now to have a page but I'm not sure again. 04:27, September 6, 2010 (UTC)if you wan't a page deleted, you ill have better luck with SHIELD unit, try asking him. Dabur was a really cool guy, but he got banned for link spamming.
Call Of Chernobyl Roadside Picnic Set
04:33, September 6, 2010 (UTC)I'll discuss it with him and see what he thinks. Spysix 04:35, September 6, 2010 (UTC)Why is everyone putting so much time and effort into why this page should or should not be deleted/expanded? Couldn't we all spend that time and energy fixing all the incomplete pages and sixty or so stub pages?12:54, September 6, 2010 (UTC)leave those matters to the admins.
I am more of a spelling and grammer guy. 21:29, September 6, 2010 (UTC)Gramm ar even:P - 14:54, September 7, 2010 (UTC)I have rewritten the article, so that it is pertinent to this wiki. The Roadside Picnic is the one biggest inspiration for the STALKER series, it's patently obvious and has been mentioned several times. Not including this article would be akin to not including the Bible as one of the biggest sources of inspiration and influence on European culture. In a nutshell: this article stays as Roadside Picnic is the bible of the STALKER series. 08:19, September 7, 2010 (UTC)Your analogy is completely wrong as the bible has been numerously referenced in the corresponding Universe as an influence, while Roadside Picnic has been mentioned not once, neither by the developers nor in the vanilla game itself which is what we aim to document.
08:27, September 7, 2010 (UTC)Like it or not, STALKER is obviously based on Roadside Picnic and this article documents that fact. 09:06, September 7, 2010 (UTC)Ok, firstly, calm down as you seem irritated. I made a legitimate point as that interview was not referenced in the corresponding article so it seemed as if everyone were assuming that the developers were influenced by the authors. Still, I don't think it deserves more than being mentioned in the Trivia section of SoC, as the book itself, the plot are not a major presence in the vanilla game, which we are here to document. 10:03, September 7, 2010 (UTC)You're just going to ignore the entire 'wish granter' part of the SoC plot?
- 15:00, September 7, 2010 (UTC)Big difference between a golden sphere and a monolith that 'supposedly' grants wishes to lure people. Which we don't even know what happens in the end of the book. A wish granter has been used in plot devices before. Spysix 15:10, September 7, 2010 (UTC)Yes, I am, as the book itself is not a part of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Universe no matter how similar they are. As I've mentioned numerous times, we are here to document the S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
It was only mentioned by the developers as an influence and such, it deserves a mention in the Trivia section. 15:55, September 7, 2010 (UTC)Document?
Sorry, we're not National Geographic, we aren't 'documenting' anything. As stated on the frontpage, we are creating a gamer's guide to the STALKER universe. And guides are supposed to thoroughly explain everything relevant to the topic at hand. If half of the STALKER games mimicked My Little Pony, I'd personally acquaint myself with the entire franchise in order to write a comprehensive article detailing similarities between ponies. 18:05, September 7, 2010 (UTC)Well, I'm sorry, but you obviously have no idea what a wiki is as this is such a website, hosted by the Wikia foundation no matter what the admin has written on the main page.
Yeah, we're here to document the game. Oh, and calm down and tone down the aggressive behaviour. 18:46, September 7, 2010 (UTC)(Reset indent) If you checked my userpage, you would know that I'm an administrator on two wikis, this one and The Vault, and a bureaucrat on the Prototype and Command & Conquer wikis. I do know what a wiki is. I also know that Wikia is not a foundation, but a private for-profit enterprise. You're confusing it with an entirely separate non-profit entity known as the Wikimedia Foundation, which indeed concerns itself with documenting stuff. Therefore, the wiki is what we make of it.
19:48, September 7, 2010 (UTC)Well, since you insist so on this wiki being a Guide as you put it, this article obviously does not belong here as it has no relevance to a guide. How would this be useful to anyone who is using this wiki as a Guide? Unless the goal of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Wiki is to document the game itself and its roots, this discussion is useless. Your logic simply does not comply. 08:26, September 8, 2010 (UTC)You mean the part where I want to document the roots of the STALKER series by including an article on the Roadside Picnic. 17:58, September 8, 2010 (UTC)Of course.
18:52, September 8, 2010 (UTC)Google sarcasm, please. 19:05, September 8, 2010 (UTC)Folks, if you're feeling the heat from this discussion, I suggest you take a break of a day or two between posts in order to keep your heads and arguments chilled and to the point. For example, there were times during previous debates where if I didn't leave for a week or so and think about what I posted, I'd probably end up flaming like I did on the mIRC channel (which I'd like to now apologise for), so I'd like to say that I support Mikael's initial statement.Reanim, if you would be so kind would you let me know when you've read the book so that we can continue this discussion? Until then, you really shouldn't be commenting on a topic that you're unfamiliar with. Also, just because you dont find this page useful doesn't mean it qualifies for deletion.01:07, September 9, 2010 (UTC)I own this book. It is a very good book, but just because it has a zone and a few anomalies doesnt make it a good source of info for the stalker series. I'm not here to make enemies, or particapate in a pointless argument.

So chikubi, I think I have a solution. How about we start on a new version of this article. Maybe showing the simalarities between the book and the game series. With all the info on this page. Then when it is done, delete this article. So in turn this whole conversation will be gone.
Everybody will be satisfied. And the new article will be an even better source of information. 16:18, September 9, 2010 (UTC)Dude, the makers have cited it as one of the sources of inspiration. Plus, the similarities are more than superficial. Tell me, how many books are there that feature a Zone that defies human science, filled with artifacts with unique properties etc.? 19:21, September 9, 2010 (UTC)OK. But pretend I deleted the second sentence and read it again.
Tell me what you think about that idea. 20:54, September 9, 2010 (UTC)After reading this argument of both parties, I have to say that you don't necessarily have to wait for an official mention from GSC.
